Sharing Seafloor Exploration at the Seattle Aquarium

Exploring the Deep at the Seattle Aquarium
Cabled Array Team At the Science Center

Dana Manalang (Applied Physics Laboratory engineer) and Brendan Philip (School of Oceanography graduate student) share the marvels of deep sea exploration and the underwater cabled observatory at the Seattle Aquarium's Discover Science Event 2016.

The OOI Cabled Array team was front and center at the Seattle Aquarium’s Discover Science Event on Nov 12, 2016. Adults and children alike stopped by our table, hosted by Brendan Philip and Dana Manalang, to marvel at videos of deep sea creatures and hydrothermal vents, handle basalt and vent chimney samples collected over a mile deep in the ocean, and learn how robotic systems are involved in scientific expeditions. The event drew over 3,500 visitors, who had the opportunity to interact with local scientists and researchers throughout the aquarium exhibit halls.
