On July 4, 2015, the University of Washington research ship the R/V Thompson will set sail for the first operations and maintenance cruise for the cabled component of the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative.

I’ve spent the last few days pretty much wrapped up in helping with the processing of past dive videos. This is an amazingly, extremely, and incredibly time-consuming task.

My sense of time is completely skewed aboard this vessel. Because operations are 24 hours everyday of the week, there is no distinction between days of the week.
