we were able to wrap up the day when a huge quantity of porpoises and multiple whales crossed our path.
It was pretty cool when some of us came back and sifted through the animals and being able to take a look at what we found.
Today was my first time going outside to explore the boat. I did not realize how big the ship is.
Luckily, the monotonous deployment and recovery of 2900 meters of cable was punctuated by the emergence of two sharks.
the food aboard is actually very delicious; fresh salmon with lemon, chicken curry, thanksgiving-style turkey dinners. Sadly, I’ve had to forego most of the food on board due to seasickness.
By the afternoon we had arrived at Axial Base and did a CTD cast to get some measurements of the water column.
We also had an incredible sunset – the first of the cruise.
Today is the second full day we’ve been at sea. After boarding the ship on the 8th, we sat at the dock in Newport for a night, and waited to embark until the following morning at 0900. The weather has been mostly calm and predominately fog
