The deep ocean is a harsh environment where animals must adapt to high pressure, cold temperatures, darkness, and an often low nutrient supply. During the VISIONS’13 expedition, student Caitlin Russell, a Boston University undergraduate who participated in the UW School of Oceanography at-sea program aboard the R/V Thompson, utilized deep-sea imagery from the ROVs Jason and ROPOS to document animals on the Juan de Fuca Ridge.
