RSN and ARGO: the Impact that Free Data Platforms can have on Society

Charlie Parker has been working for the ARGO float Lab at the University of Washington for the past two years.  The ARGO program, like RSN, provides data that is completely free and available to the public, the implications of which are discussed in further in the article.  Accompanying the article is a short video clip showing the deployment of an ARGO float.

There is a need to better understand the ocean, because it is the largest ecosystem on the planet, and distributes huge amounts of heat globally.  Understanding the ocean and its impact on our lives is of the utmost importance.  The RSN and ARGO projects will help further our knowledge of the planet, and access to free data is a progressive step forward.
