Gina is a junior at the University of Washington studying Bioengineering. She is interested in the development of point-of-care medical devices and biosensors, a topic she explores in her research in the Ratner Lab in the Department of Bioengineering. A Virginia native, she spends free time at the piano or marimba, exploring Seattle's urban and alpine neighborhoods, and volunteering at the Day Workers' Center at Casa Latina in central Seattle. Though she is new to oceanography, she has always been fascinated by the natural world and is eager to contribute to the myriad of projects aboard the Thompson.
