In this video, UW VISIONS’23 student, Emily Pinneo, documents organisms thriving on an RCA Shallow Profiler Mooring platform at 200 m water depth at the Oregon Offshore site, located ~45 miles west of Newport, Oregon. The instrumented 12 ft across, 7,000 lb platform was turned in 2018, free of any life. The platforms provide hard substrates near to the photic zone,  and with time become “islands” for life transported in the water column to settle on. Credit: E.
