As part of the UW College of the Environment-School of Oceanography Seagoing Research & Discovery course onboard the R/V Thompson, students develop and implement research and public engagement projects. They are encouraged to work as a team, but to also develop individual projects that may include conducting microbial analyses of organisms that thrive in extreme vent environments, to producing online general audience videos. During the expedition, they present the progress on their projects to the entire science team, and once on shore they are encouraged to give general audience talks and to talk to other educators and students about their research and experiences onboard. VISIONS '14 student projects will be posted as they become available.
