This documentary was produced by UW Oceanography student Jenna Fernandez, who sailed on the VISIONS’22 expedition. She is now an engineer at the UW Applied Physics Laboratory. The video provides an informational resource about oceanographic instrumentation, specifically the CTD. This instrument widely utilized in oceanography for measuring core parameters in the oceans including conductivity (salinity), temperature, pressure (depth). On VISIONS cruises (an many others) a rosette hosting the core CTD instruments, as well as sensors that measure dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, turbidity, and pH, also includes 24 Niskin bottles to collect ocean fluids. This documentary describes the CTD history, its’ application, and refurbishment process.
