Engineers and scientists are busy with onshore preparations for the six-week VISIONS ’13 expedition scheduled to sail from Seattle in early July. Extension cables are spooled and ready for installation; students are getting excited about the opportunities for hands-on, at-sea experience; websites are being finalized; shipping and travel arrangements are being made; the final details of ship loading and extension cable testing are being worked out. It’s a busy and an exciting time as the UW team looks forward to this historic step in the construction of the regional cabled observatory component of the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative.
