I’m Atticus Carter, a senior student in Oceanography at the University of Washington, pursuing a dual degree in Educational Studies, Research and Policy Option, with a minor in Earth and Space Sciences. Last year, I created SEAPEN (Subaquatic Ecosystem Analysis and Population Estimation Network)  (https://www.seapen.tech/) as a project for the Visions 2023 cruise. SEAPEN focuses on leveraging advanced computer vision technology to monitor marine ecosystems, estimate population sizes, and analyze the health of various marine species, contributing significantly to ecological research and conservation efforts. This summer, I’m excited to embark on the Visions 2024 cruise. My main research interests lie in computer vision and educational research, and I look forward to further developing SEAPEN during this expedition and gaining more ship experience. This cruise offers an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience and I am very happy to learn from experts in the field. I am eager to contribute to the research efforts on board, continue my work with SEAPEN, and enhance my practical knowledge of oceanographic research techniques.
