Evan Davis is an undergraduate geology student at California State University Chico. He is a Junior with interest in volcanology, igneous petrology, and planetary geology related to magmatic processes. Evan recently presented his first research project on modeling a Martian lava flow at the GSA section meeting in Flagstaff. He has his sights set on a masters degree after finishing his undergraduate work. He is very excited about the Visions cruise because the Axial Sea Mount is similar to lava flows on Mars in that it can’t be accessed very easily, but since it is on Earth much more data can be collected. He hopes to study magmatic processes in graduate school, so getting an introduction and hands on experience will be very helpful to building the skills needed for success in the future.
