Public Outreach in Oceanography: Perspectives from some of the VISIONS '13 Team
This article examines the state of public outreach in oceanography compared to a similar field, and is based on interviews with a variety of students and scientists: Brendan Philip is an undergraduate majoring in oceanography at the University of Washington; Marisa Gedney is a recent graduate from the oceanography department, like myself; Owen Coyle is a graduate student in the oceanography department; Leslie Sautter is a professor of geology at the College of Charleston; Mary Miller is Project Director, Public Understanding of Research at the Exploratorium in San Francisco; and John Delaney is the chief scientist for the RSN project.
