Naomi Wharton (Leg 2)

I am a graduate student in the physical oceanography Ph.D. program at the University of Washington School of Oceanography, where I am advised by Drs. Alison Gray and Steve Riser. I received my bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard University in 2019, after which I embarked on a 3-month coast-to-coast camping road trip through forty states and seventeen U.S. national parks and monuments. My graduate research focuses on using satellite and in situ observations to study processes at the air-sea interface and how they relate to climate. I am excited to learn about a totally different oceanic environment – the deep ocean – as part of VISIONS’24, which will be my first research cruise! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing board games, and spending time with my two cats.
