Anshul Shah (Leg 1)

Hi, I’m Anshul, a rising junior studying computer science at UW. I’m interested in how technology can help solve big scientific and societal problems; in the past I’ve worked on accelerating genomic analysis with machine learning and simulating wireless communication on the moon using lunar soil data. Recently, I’ve been drawn to climate science and how computing can help us understand and address environmental challenges like climate change.

I’m excited to join this cruise to dive into oceanography, learning not just the technology like sensors and datasets, but the science itself. I want to understand how the ocean shapes Earth’s climate and see firsthand how research at sea is done. I’m also looking forward to meeting the other students, scientists, and crew onboard and exploring how CS and ocean science can come together in a future career.

In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, basketball, and cooking!
