Ian is a sophomore in the Department of Earth & Space Sciences(ESS) majoring in Geophysics. Despite this being his first time at sea, Ian has always been fascinated by the enigmatic ocean depths and the chance to be part of a project to build an underwater observatory for future study of the oceans was an experience he definitely could not pass up.
In addition, while not specifically focused on his main field of interest, what drew Ian to Visions ’14 was the golden opportunity to be able to do scientific research on an actual research vessel, as well as being able to work with scientists specializing in a variety of interesting fields, such as marine biology and volcanology. Through Visions ’14, Ian hopes to gain valuable research skills, especially in the fields of data and numerical modeling and above all, an unforgettable experience.
