My name is Abbey Moore, and I’m a senior at the University of Washington majoring in Oceanography and minoring in Earth and Space Sciences. I grew up in the Mojave Desert and always wanted to pursue an education that would bring me to wetter environments, and you can’t get much wetter than the ocean! During my time as an undergraduate, I have grown to love the geology and geochemistry of the ocean, which makes me extremely excited to have the opportunity to observe the Axial Seamount and the geochemical features the define the hydrothermal vent systems we will see. VISIONS granted me a unique opportunity to be involved in an incredible expedition, and I’m excited to work with the crew and students on this year’s cruise.
