Kaitlin Harrison (Leg 1)

Kaitlin Harrison is a dual-title PhD student in the UW Oceanography and Astrobiology departments. She studies carbon fixation in extreme environments, including hydrothermal vents, sea ice, and brines, in order to explore their contributions to the carbon cycle on Earth as well as the habitability of exoplanets. Onboard VISIONS, she is interested in exploring the adaptations of the unique hydrothermal vent ecosystems. In addition to her science, she is an avid knitter and reader. This will be her first cruise at sea.
