Rika Anderson (Leg 1)

Rika Anderson is a marine microbiologist, geobiologist, and astrobiologist who studies how microbes and their viruses adapt and change over time in deep-sea hydrothermal vents. She got her PhD at the University of Washington in the School of Oceanography, and now she teaches at Carleton College. On the VISIONS’23 cruise, she and her team will be collecting samples from hydrothermal vents and helping to recover the PPS instrument, which enables long-term monitoring of the microbial communities that live in hydrothermal vents.
