Orest Kawka

School of Oceanography Senior Research Scientist

Orest is a the Senior Scientist with the OOI Regional Cabled Array program and routinely sails as Chief Scientist of Co-Chief Scientist. He is an organic geochemist with a strong background in hydrogeology and sediment geochemistry. As part of the Regional Cabled Array team he is oversees several of the instruments installed on the cabled network, including the in situ mass spectrometer and the bottom pressure-tilt instrument. He is also taking a leading role on testing numerous water column instruments and in conducting CTD casts for instrument verfication and calibration. He is an avid bike rider and skier.
