Alessia Simmen (Legs 2 & 3)

Hello! My name is Alessia Simmen, and I am entering my senior year as a major in Marine Biology, with a minor in Architecture. At an early age I fell in love with the ocean, and growing up close to the Puget Sound definitely influenced my passion for all things marine. After taking my first marine biology class during sophomore year and learning about the wonders of the deep ocean and hydrothermal vents, I could not pass up the chance to join a cruise and learn more about what lies in the deep and dark. I am very excited to experience my first expedition on a research vessel and to learn more about the operation of a research ship. I currently work with coral in the Padilla-Gamiño Lab and am ready to learn about state-of-the-art marine technologies and their use in the collection of in situ ocean data.
